The 4200m3, Split-hull type Hopper Trailing suction dredger, is the only unit available for sale(second hand TSHD), this vessel is highly equipped with MAN engines, HK Pumps, and all other high-grade equipements both for Dredging system, navigation system and split system.

She has the following advantages and features

1. Fast Mud Discharge

A split-hull Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger opens its hull via a hinged mechanism in the center, allowing the dredged material in the hopper to rapidly discharge under gravity. This process typically takes only a few minutes. In contrast, bottom-door hopper dredgers rely on opening multiple bottom doors. This method is significantly affected by water currents and the fluidity of the slurry, resulting in slower discharge speeds—especially noticeable with cohesive soils or high-concentration slurries.

2. Suitable for High-Viscosity or Coarse-Grained Sediments

Split-hull discharge is almost unrestricted by the physical properties of the sediment. It can efficiently unload difficult-to-flow materials such as clay and gravel. Conversely, bottom doors are prone to clogging or incomplete discharge when handling cohesive soils or large particles, often requiring additional flushing or manual cleaning.

3. More Thorough Discharge

The split-hull design achieves an emptiness rate of nearly 100%, reducing residue and improving effective loading efficiency. Due to structural limitations, bottom-door dredgers often leave residual sediment in the bilge, which affects subsequent loading capacity and operational efficiency.

4. Suitable for Precise Dumping in Environmentally Sensitive Areas

Split-hull vessels can quickly and centrally dump dredged materials at designated locations, facilitating control over the dumping range and reducing diffusion pollution. Bottom-door discharge takes longer, causing the sediment to disperse along a wider settling path in the water, which is unfavorable for precise placement.

5. Relatively Simpler Maintenance (in certain aspects)

Although the split-hull mechanism is mechanically complex, it eliminates the need for numerous bottom hydraulic doors and sealing systems. This reduces the risk of door leaks, corrosion, and jamming. Bottom doors, however, are numerous and have high sealing requirements. They are prone to corrosion and aging in seawater environments, leading to higher maintenance costs.

Applications:

Coastal port dredging, waterway deepening and maintenance

Land Reclamation, beach nourishment and harbor expansion

FAQs

Q1: What are the core application scenarios and applicable soil types of the 4200m³ split-hopper trailing suction hopper dredger ?

A1: This traling suction hopper dredger is mainly used for dredging and reclamation projects of coastal ports and waterways, as well as coastal maintenance projects. It is suitable for a variety of soil types including sludge, clay, fine silty sand, medium-fine sand, coarse sand, gravel and pebbles, with a maximum dredging depth of 26.00m and can operate in coastal water areas with unlimited navigation area qualification.

Q2: What are the key advantages of the dredging and mud unloading system of  this split-hopper TSHD?

A2: It is equipped with two cabin mud pumps that can work independently or simultaneously for loading, shore blowing or spraying operations, with high dredging efficiency; the split mud unloading is realized by split oil cylinders, the maximum opening of the mud cabin is about 19 degrees, and the opening, closing and locking of the mud cabin can be manually or automatically controlled on the navigation console for simple and flexible operation. In addition, it is equipped with two high-pressure flushing Water Pumps that can loosen dense soil at the rake head and flush the cabin, improving dredging adaptability.

Q3: What are the characteristics of the power and propulsion system of the 4200m³ split-hull trailing suction hopper dredger?

A3: Its power system is equipped with MAN main power generation diesel engines, Siemens main generators and multi-set CAT auxiliary/emergency generators, with the main generator adopting zonal power supply and short-time paralleling capacity for high reliability. The propulsion system has 2 sets of 2400kW full-rotation propellers and 1 set of 550kW bow thruster, and is equipped with a DPDT system to realize dynamic positioning and automatic trajectory tracking operations. Meanwhile, the frequency conversion system adopts AFE scheme integration, which controls harmonics effectively and reduces power grid pollution.

"Split Hull Trailing Suction Hopper Dredgers (TSHDs) and Bottom Door TSHDs are two common discharge methods for suction dredgers. The former is relatively rare in China, and available second-hand Vessels For Sale is only this unit.

This specific vessel is particularly notable for its exceptionally high specifications, rivaling European TSHDs from IHC, and is capable of unrestricted navigation deployment."
